Ranked
This page is going to talk about the ranked distribution and what it can mean to be in Bronze 4 compared to Bronze 2.
On the left is a simple broad distribution by population of the large tiers.
From this chart Being Gold means you're in the Top 11% (roughly)+ Plat 3.5%, + Diam 1.1% = 15.6% of all players in ranked games.
This chart is kind of bullshit since 2 weeks before the end of the season every game I played had a booster in it, so it was a who can carry harder on each team, and if you looked at the end of the season standings, gold doubled in size and more than 50% of gold players were in Gold V. So if you were gold 4 you were already almost out of gold. When I looked at Gold II and Gold I, I usually only found 3 or less people sitting there for my Division. Heimerdingers something.
The Below graph while outdated gives you a rough estimate of what I believe Riot is trying to accomplish in our distribution curves for ranked.
Moving from Bronze V to Bronze I, means you moved from the bottom 8% to now 37% roughly.
Moving from Silver V to Silver 1 means you moved from beating 52% of all players to now in the top 18% of league players.
It's pretty huge.
Taking that into account, being in Gold means you're in the top 12%, meaning, you know all the champions, every skill, how to counter, how to react to it, roles, itemization, team composition, adequate mechanics, etc etc.
So, when you move up a Division from III to II, it's a big deal signifying you have now proven you can perform at this level. For those of you in bronze, remember, more than half of all Ranked Players are in Bronze and Silver is the 53% to the 88% or 35% of total population movement.
Moving into Platinum means you're in the top 3% of all players in League. Meaning you're basic knowledge of the game is huge.
Diamond is ridiculous at 0.64% (only around 14,000 players total out of roughly 760,000 total ranked players, remove the zeros, that's 14 out of 760 players are in diamond)
and Challenger is the icing on top of Diamond.
